The Donner Fakeaway!

So tomorrow's dinner, which will be done in the the slow cooker is a Fakeaway. I've done this before and honestly it's better than any takeaway kebab!  You know what you've put in this and it's not been on a spit for goodness knows how long!!!

I've prepped it and it's in cold storage ie the Conservatory until I need to put it in the sc.

I shall serve with it pitta bread and salad and homemade coleslaw.

Menu Planning - Week Commencing 27 January 2014

This week it's all about following my menu plan, too much time in life is takien up with choosing at the last minute, so on Sunday I sat down and devised a quick menu.  This week is all about trying to keep things reasonably simple and quick as it's turning out to be a week of running around.

Monday 27 January 2014

Homemade Pizza and salad - all ingredients are in the house and nothing to buy.

Using James Morton Pizza base recipe from Brilliant Bread.

Tuesday 28 January 2014

Fakeaway - it's a Donnor recipe, done in the slow cooker and very yummy.

Recipe for that is:-

Mix 500g Lean lamb mince with 1tsp dried oregano, 1/2 tsp dried italian herb mix (I just used normal mixed herbs), 1tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, 1tsp salt and 1/2 tsp black pepper.

Mix thoroughly and shape into a meat loaf shape. Success is all in the mixing so either use a blender or get your hands stuck in and make it lovely and smooth. Whack it a few times and take your anger out on it to get rid of any air pockets too. This will avoid a dry, crumbly disaster!!Pop straight in slow cooker for 3-4 hours high or 5-7 house on low. Slice thinly and serve.

Tastes EXACTLY like chip shop donor kebab 😊

*First time you cook it, keep an eye on timings. Each slow cooker differs and seems it goes from perfect to spoilt very quickly. If in doubt, go for the lower cooking times first or wrap in foil. If using less than 500g of mince, also remember to adjust cooking times.Mine was done for 3.5 hours high and was perfect. Beef, chicken, pork etc won't work for those asking, it just wouldn't be a doner kebab!!!

Chicken Frittata I think????

Thursday 30 January 2014

Fishcakes (some already premade in the freezer) and potato wedges and probably a homemade coleslaw.

Friday 31 January 2014

Treat night - I have some duck breasts in the freezer which I think I will get out and make a healthy form of Crispy Duck - Hairy Dieters Book.

Pizza

Todays dinner is homemade pizza using James Morton's pizza base recipe - the tomato sauce is sort of his but customised by me, ie I've followed it, then as with all recipes I change it!!!  I've added a few fresh herbs that I have on my kitchen windowsill, some thyme, rosemary and basil and a few fennel seeds.

This meal is a special request from my pizza loving son, I know he will tell me this is not as good as the local Italians but I am trying my best in a normal kitchen oven, minus a pizza stone, so shall attempt to get my oven nice and hot!!

I shall upload some photos when cooked.
